(I Audited My Closet Instead of Buying More)
No, yeah, that closet was full— and still “ I have nothing to wear.”
You know the feeling. It’s borderline insane.
We have clothes.
Good clothes. Expensive clothes. “Cool Girl” clothes.
Go through that shit. I don’t mean a dramatic purge, just an honest evaluation of what’s working and what’s not.
- Does this actually fit?
Not just does it zip… does it fit your body.
Your shoulders, your waist, yourproportions.
If you have to have to adjust it all day, it doesn’t fit.
If you have to wait until you lose 5 pounds, it doesn’t fit.
If it doesn’t fit, it doesn’t belong ( or you have to get it altered if it’s an absolute favorite.)
2. Is it actually flattering?
It may be beautiful, it may look absolutely incredible on someone else, but that doesn’t mean it works for you.
I know, this is harsh, but sometimes we have to suck it up.
Does it hit in a good spot?
Does it shorten you?
Does it make sense on your frame and figure?
Does the color suit you or make you look exhausted?
If you know it’s not for you, it’s not staying. Be honest with yourself.
3. Does this match what you already own?
Look at the piece and think “Can I create 3 outfits with this right now,”? If the answer is no, it’s just clutter. Time to part with it.
4. Do you reach for it, or avoid it?
You know what I’m talking about. Your behavior doesn’t lie. If it sits there untouched, you have your answer. Get rid of it.
What to do with what doesn’t make the cut.
Now that we’ve established what has to go, it’s time to decide what to actually do with them.
Not everything belongs in the same pile.
Donate
If it’s worn, outdated, or just not worth the effort, give it to your local donation box. Don’t worry about squeezing $8 out of it.
ThreadUp (low effort, low emotion)
For pieces that still have life, are recognizable brands, and you just don’t feel like taking pictures of them.
Send the bag and move on.
Poshmark
If it’s designed, current, or in great condition, resell it.
I’ll link my Poshmark here — it’s mostly pieces I genuinely loved, just refined out of rotation
We don’t need better clothes, just better standards. Refine what’s there and you’ll feel so much better about it.
XOXO,
Sam
